From hangars and control towers to tents and temporary disaster relief centers, electricity is paramount to everything we do. It’s the job of Electrical Power Production specialists to ensure that we always have electricity readily available. These experts utilize a vast array of skills and knowledge to do everything from starting up portable generators to maintaining and operating power stations to keep all of our bases operating at full capacity.

Climate control plays a large role in the comfort and efficiency of our Airmen as well as our electronic equipment. Responsible for maintaining the mechanical systems that keep our surroundings temperature-controlled, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) specialists ensure that every space at their respective base is functioning correctly. These experts install, maintain and repair the different HVAC/R systems necessary for us to complete our operations in a variety of climates all over the world.

Our ability to extend our presence and worldwide impact is due to our ability to have working bases wherever we’re needed. It’s the great responsibility of Pavements and Construction Equipment personnel to construct runways and airfields in remote global locations in addition to maintaining facilities already in use. These professionals are part of a team that does everything from operating heavy construction equipment to detonating explosives in order to care for and create the facilities we need most.

The buildings and structures on each base are integral to every part of Air Force operations. It’s the job of Structural Specialists to construct and repair any buildings and other structures from the foundation up. These highly trained experts use their varied skill sets and specialized materials, tools and equipment to build anything we need, from improvised emergency disaster relief shelters to locker rooms.

The Air Force must maintain thousands of miles of fuel and water lines essential to our daily operations. These professionals are highly trained in a wide variety of areas, including the principles of operation and construction and fire suppression systems in order to keep our bases running smoothly while upholding the highest environmental standards.

From roads to buildings, when something needs to be constructed on an Air Force base, it needs to be done with skill and precision. Responsible for planning and managing construction projects, Engineering specialists ensure that every base has the facilities and structures they need to keep operating successfully. With tasks that include surveying, computer-aided drafting and soil testing, these highly trained experts make sure that every project operates smoothly and without any unforeseen problems.

The Air Force constructs and maintains thousands of facilities around the world, and keeping these projects on time and under budget is not an easy task. It’s the responsibility of Operations Management specialists to manage projects from start to finish, ensuring schedules are met, materials are available and everything stays within budget. These experts coordinate details with a large number of people, including engineers, civilian contractors and other vendors to make sure the job gets done right.

The Air Force operates with unusual materials and unique environments all over the world, so we need specialists prepared for anything. Acting as the firemen of the Air Force, Fire Protection specialists deal with everything from brush fires to burning rocket fuel and hazardous material fires. Upholding our mission to ensure the safety of others, these specialists don’t just act on Air Force bases, but assist civilian fire departments when needed as well.
